"Use it because you love it - love it because you use it"
SilkMoon is built on the principle of “Use it because you love it – Love it because you use it”
It is our mission to design and create beautiful pieces of art that have a use and a purpose and not at a cost to the environment. We call it “Useable Art”
SilkMoon - Our story
What was the origin of the inspiration?
SilkMoon is the dream of artist and designer Amanda
A few days before the Summer Solstice in 2013, we took a trip to Stonehenge in Wiltshire. We met Druid, Merlin of England and chatted with him about Solstice rituals and moon phases. Merlin wanted to show us his moon phase calendar, he took out a leather covered notebook filled with his notes and sketches. The notebook was covered with an exquisitely beautiful, but much worn, celtic knotwork design. When Merlin opened the notebook, it fell open softly, the suppleness reflecting its years of use. I instantly fell in love with that notebook! It was beautiful, it had a purpose, it was worn, it was cherished.
Amanda is a designer and artist specialising in textiles. Amanda grew up in an artistic and creative environment. She loved textiles, stitch and creativity from a very young age, influenced by her artist Mother and seamstress Grandmother. For many years Amanda stitched, painted and drew as a hobby.
Whilst working and bringing up a family for a number of years, Amanda was a keen advocate of reusing, repurposing and upcycling; creating items for herself and family and friends
With a growing love for design, Amanda decided to study Product Design at UWIC Cardiff and graduated with a BA Hons. Silk Moon enables Amanda’s creative journey to combine her design skills with her love of art and textiles.
